Santissima_Trinita_M.jpg

The following is a paraphrase of the ‘Te Deum’:

Holy God, we praise Thy name;

Lord of all, we bow before Thee!

All on earth Thy septer claim,

All in Heaven above adore Thee;

Infinite Thy vast domain,

Everlasting is Thy reign.

Hark! the loud celestial hymn

Angel choirs above are raising,

Cherubim and seraphim,

In unceasing chorus praising;

Fill the heavens with sweet accord:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord.

Lo! the apostolic train

Join the sacred Name to hallow;

Prophets swell the loud refrain,

And the white robed martyrs follow;

And from morn to set of sun,

Through the Church the song goes on.

Holy Father, Holy Son,

Holy spirit, Three we name Thee;

While in essence only One,

Undivided God we claim Thee,

And adoring bend the knee,

While we own the mystery.

Thou art King of glory, Christ;

Son of God, yet born of Mary,

For us sinners sacrificed,

And to death a tributary:

First to break the bars of death,

Thou has opened Heaven to faith.

From Thy high celestial home,

Judge of all, again returning,

We believe that Thou shalt come

In the dreaded doomsday morning;

When Thy voice shall shake the earth,

And the startled dead come forth

Therefore do we pray Thee, Lord:

Help Thy servants whom, redeeming

By Thy precious blood out-poured,

Thou hast saved from Satan’s scheming.

Give to them eternal rest

In the glory of the best.

Spare Thy people, Lord, we pray.

By a thousand snares surrounded:

Keep us without sin today.

Never let us be confounded.

Lo, I put by trust in Thee;

Never, Lord abandon me.

Translation:

Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest,

and in our souls take up Thy rest;

come with Thy grace and heavenly aid

to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

O comforter, to Thee we cry,

O heavenly gift of God Most High,

O fount of life and fire of love,

and sweet anointing from above.

Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known;

Thou, finger of God’s hand we own;

Thou, promise of the Father, Thou

Who dost the tongue with power imbue.

Kindle our sense from above,

and make our hearts o’erflow with love;

with patience firm and virtue high

the weakness of our flesh supply.

Far from us drive the foe we dread,

and grant us Thy peace instead;

so shall we not, with Thee for guide,

turn from the path of life aside.

Oh, may Thy grave on us bestow

the Father and the Son to know;

and Thee, through endless times confessed,

of both the eternal Spirit blest.

Now to the Father and the Son,

Who rose from death, be glory given,

with Thou, O Holy Comforter,

henceforth by all in earth and heaven.

Amen.

O purest of creatures,

Sweet Mother, sweet Maid

the one spotless womb

wherein Jesus was laid!

Dark night has come down on us

Mother, and we

look out for thy shining

sweet Star of the sea.

Deep night has come down

on this rough-spoken world,

and the banners of darkness

are boldly unfurled;

and the tempest-tossed Church

all her eyes are on thee,

they look to thy shining,

sweet Star of the sea.

Earth gave Him one lodging,

’twas deep in thy breast,

and God found a home

where the sinner finds rest.

His home and His hiding place,

both were in thee;

He was won by thy shining

sweet Star of the sea.

Eucharistic-Adoration.jpg

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,

and with fear and trembling stand;

Ponder nothing earthly minded,

for with blessing in His hand.

Christ our God to earth descendeth,

our full homage to demand.

King of kings, yet born of Mary,

as of old on earth He stood,

Lord of lords, in human vesture,

in the Body and the Blood;

He will give to all the faithful

His own self for heavenly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven

spreads its vanguard on the way,

as the Light of light descendeth

from the realms of endless day,

that the powers of hell may vanish

as the darkness clears away.

At His feet the six winged Seraph,

Cherubim with sleepless eye,

veil their faces to the presence,

as with ceaseless voice they cry:

Allelulia, alleluia

allelulia, Lord Most High!

Holy light on earth’s horizon,

star of hope to fallen man,

light amid a world of shadows,

dawn of God’s redemptive plan.

Chosen from eternal ages,

thou alone of all our race,

by thy Son’s atoning merits

wast conceived in perfect grace.

Mother of the world’s Redeemer,

promised from the dawn of time.

How could one so highly favoured

share the guilt of Adam’s crime?

Sun and moon and stars adorn thee,

sinless Eve, triumphant sign.

Thou art she who crushed the serpent,

Mary, pledge of life divine.

Earth below and highest Heaven

praise the splendor of thy state.

Thou who now art crowned in glory

wast conceived immaculate.

Hail beloved of the Father,

Mother of His only Son,

Mystic bride of Love eternal,

Hail thou fair and spotless one!
